If you or a loved one has trouble standing from a couch, chair, or recliner, the Universal Stand Assist from Able Life can help you stand with confidence without having to buy an expensive lift chair. It’s perfect for those who are recovering from surgery, are experiencing back pain or general unsteadiness, or have a lower-set couch that is hard to stand from.

Prevent Falls while Standing

The Universal Stand Assist offers dual assist handles to help sit or stand safely from your favorite couch or chair. The padded grips provide steady assistance to help stand with confidence without the fear of falling.

The Universal Stand Assist requires assembly and installation on the chair. For detailed instructions on how to assemble and install the Universal Stand Assist, watch our instructional video below.

The Universal Stand Assist can be installed one of two ways. Some chairs, recliners, and couches require the product frame to be placed around the cushion (because the cushion cannot be removed). Other chairs will allow the product frame to be placed underneath the cushion (because the cushion is removable). For installation instructions for chairs, couches, and recliners, refer to the recommendations below. If you have specific questions regarding the compatibility of your chair, contact our team at 1-800-506-9901.

Once installed on the couch, chair, or recliner, you can use the dual assist handles to pull yourself to the edge of the cushion and push yourself up to a standing position. You can also use the handles to lower yourself slowly into the chair.

Follow the guidelines below to see if the Universal Stand Assist is compatible with your chair:

  • Measure the dimensions of your chair cushion. If your cushion is 19″-26″ wide and 24″-27″ deep, the Universal Stand Assist will work with your chair.
  • If your chair has a removable cushion, place the frame underneath the cushion. If your chair has a fixed or stitched cushion, place the frame so that it rests in the creases around the cushion.
  • If the bottom of the cushion sits 12″ from the ground or less, the frame will need to be placed around the seat cushion (regardless of cushion type) with the feet and handles adjusted appropriately.

Follow the guidelines below to see if the Universal Stand Assist is compatible with your couch:

  • Measure the dimensions of your couch cushion. If your cushion is 19″-26″ wide and 24″-27″ deep, the Universal Stand Assist will work with your chair.
  • If your couch has a removable cushion, place the frame underneath the cushion.

  • If your couch has a reclining leg rest, refer to the installation instructions for recliners.

Follow the guidelines below to see if the Universal Stand Assist is compatible with your recliner:

  • Measure the dimensions of your recliner cushion. If your cushion is 19″-26″ wide and 24″-27″ deep, the Universal Stand Assist will work with your recliner.
  • The Stand Assist will not work on recliners with seat cushions wider than 26″.

  • The Stand Assist will not work on recliners with leg rests that flair to the edges of the recliners making the leg rest wider than the seat cushion.

  • Place the frame so that it rests in the creases of the cushion and adjust feet to be as close to 90° as possible when your recliner is in its natural position.
